STEVE TRIPI WAS VERY HAPPY TODAY.

When he walked into the studio, he gave me a hug. I should stress that this doesn’t happen very often. The reason for this transpiring was fairly simple. The one sports issue Steve is more adamant about than any other today is that of using public funding to build sports venues, and his views that it’s ridiculous wealthy owners strong-arm cities to foot the bill for stadiums that the owners are rich enough to pay for themselves. Normally when he rants to Rich and myself on this topic pre-show, we agree with him though don’t say too much more back to him on it. (It’s the free market, and there are always more cities than teams. Unless every city stands together and says no to the owners, there’s not too much that can be done). One of Steve’s favorite shows, as is mine, is Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. It dives into a greater structural inequality or thing that is otherwise wrong with the world every week, and does so with humor, passion, and activism.

Last night, John Oliver tackled stadiums. The segment, as most of his are, is must-see. Click HERE to watch it.

As part of All-Star festivities, the Futures Game was Sunday in Cincinnati. It showed us a glimpse into what this world is waiting for. I for one, welcome our new mustache overlords. (link HERE)

As you may know, my favorite NBA team is the San Antonio Spurs, and not just for success. They are interesting and fascinating characters (have you SEEN a Popovich press conference?) and are always selfless and on the same page. They do what’s best for the organization as a whole and there’s no ego management because a lot of times, there’s no ego. A clear example is right HERE in a fancy chart detailing Tim Duncan’s value to his team vs. his paycheck.
