Yikes, I’m not sure what Rex is thinking, but I guess he must have some logic to it. Signing IK Enemkpali only what, 24 hours after he was released by the New York Jets for breaking Geno Smith’s jaw, is a good idea? To me, this shows that he’s a loose canon, you’re not going to be able to get respect from him if he has no problem with throwing some hay makers at your starting quarterback. Don’t get me wrong, I trust Rex Ryan completely, but this was kind of alarming. Maybe Rex just wants another body to ride out training camp, someone that guys can go a little harder at. Chances are, IK isn’t going to make the team, he’s just going to put on a great show in training camp. There’s going to be more media paying attention to him at camp, and who knows, maybe he does really shine and get a spot.
It’s clear that Doug Whaley and the Pegula’s trust Rex; after all, Rex was the one who kept saying “I’ve been around him for a year, I know him”. He says it was a “terrible thing” that happened and that Enemkpali made a mistake, but why sign him? The defense does not need the addition, they’re already incredible. To me, Rex really likes to give guys second chances. Richie Incognito, Aaron Kromer, IK Enemkpali, who is next?
