MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at New York Yankees

Adios, Jose Reyes and hello Troy Tulowitzki! I’m a little sad to see Jose Reyes leave the Toronto Blue Jays, but I’m very excited that they got Troy to be his replacement at SS. In a trade that took place around 1am, it left most people, including myself, gasping in shock when they read the details through their ESPN alert. It’s a blockbuster trade, easily the largest of the trade season so far, and it involved 5 guys. The Colorado Rockies sent veteran reliever LaTroy Hawkins and the Jays sent 3 pitching prospects, including the #3 and #5 prospects.

This is great news for Blue Jays fans, who are hoping the team can make a last ditch effort for a run at the playoffs. They’re only 7 games behind the New York Yankees and 3 games out of the second wild card spot. The Blue Jay haven’t made the playoffs in over 20 years, and for the first time in a while, it’s reasonably close. The addition of Tulowitzki is great for the Blue Jays;  he’s current batting .300/.348/.471 with 12 home runs and 53 RBIs over 87 games in 2015. The defensive addition is great, especially because the Blue Jays have been floating around with guys at the SS position because Reyes seemed to be injured more often than none.

So now, Blue Jays fans will wait and wish that this mega deal will pay off. Hawkins has said that he intends on this season to be his last, making all Blue Jays fans really hope he can pull some magic out of his glove. In order to make this deal really worth while, the Blue Jays need to pull all the stops out and make it happen now.
